Abnormal Security helps protect Brearley students, faculty, and staff from phishing scams, malicious links, and other email-based threats. It automatically detects and removes dangerous or suspicious messages from your inbox. The system works in a secure environment to identify potential risks and remove harmful messages without disrupting your workflow.
Missing Emails – What to Do
If you can’t find an expected email, follow these steps:
- Check your Trash folder first.
- Check your Graymail folder second. Graymail is where less important messages may be filtered.
- If you still don’t find the email, contact helpdesk@brearley.org for assistance.
Email attacks are increasingly sophisticated. Phishing emails and scams often appear legitimate and can trick even vigilant users. Our community members receive a large volume of messages daily, some of which may be malicious. Abnormal Security helps by:
- Reducing the number of malicious messages in your inbox
- Protecting against account takeovers and financial fraud
- Minimizing clutter and the effort needed to verify legitimate messages
- Detecting unusual login activity, changes in mail rules, shifts in email content or tone, and unusual recipients that indicate account compromise
This allows the Technology team to respond more quickly to potential threats and safeguard your accounts and Brearley’s data.
Abnormal Security evaluates incoming messages and identifies threats such as:
- Phishing attempts
- Malware attachments
- Scams attempting to steal personal or account information
The system places suspicious messages in a safe environment and can remove them from your inbox if necessary. Messages flagged as spam are placed in your Spam folder, while dangerous messages are moved to Trash for 30 days before permanent removal.
This process is automatic and happens very quickly.
You may notice messages appear briefly in your inbox and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the system removed a potential threat.
If a message you expected does not arrive and is not in your Spam folder, contact the Technology team at helpdesk@brearley.org or submit a ticket. Include:
- Sender email
- Subject line
- Approximate time the message was sent
The team will confirm whether the message was flagged by Abnormal Security and assist in recovering legitimate emails if needed.
If you receive—or believe you have received— a suspicious email, do not click any links, download attachments, or forward the message to the Technology team or other members of the community. Instead:
- Use Gmail’s built-in “Report spam” or “Report phishing” features. These reports help Abnormal Security detect threats and keep the Brearley community safe.
- Abnormal Security automatically detects and removes email threats.
- You may see messages appear briefly and disappear; this is normal.
- If you don’t receive an expected message, contact the Technology team with details.
- Always report suspicious emails using Gmail’s built-in tools; do not forward them to others.
- The system reduces risk, clutter, and time spent verifying messages.
