Smart Fill with Google Sheets

What is Smart Fill?

Smart Fill is a feature in Google Sheets that automatically fills data into a column based on patterns recognized in adjacent columns. It saves time and effort by predicting and completing data patterns in a spreadsheet, helping users to easily manipulate and organize large sets of data

  1. Write your data in at least two boxes. For example: 

 

  1. Highlight the data. Click the blue box on the bottom right of the data until your cursor turns into a  

 

  1. Drag the box down. Google will automatically fill in your data.

Use Smart Fill

1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.

2. Enter data and then

  • Mac: Press  + Shift + Y
  • Windows/Chromebook: Ctrl Shift + Y

Tip: Click a cell to see the formula used.

Turn off Smart Fill

1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.

2. At the top, click Tools and then Autocomplete

3. Deselect Enable autocomplete
